Join author Zelko Leon, M.D., in Meeting Room B at the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library.

His book, “Maps of the Heart: Immigrant Tales of Belonging and Becoming,” is a deeply personal collection of stories set in the former Yugoslavia and the United States. It follows protagonists through moments of love, grief, resilience, and self-discovery. These stories outline the emotional maps they carry, revealing how the past shades their identities and choices.

Zelko, a medical practitioner specializing in psychiatry, brings his extensive knowledge and experience to his writing. Born in the former Yugoslavia, he immigrated to the United States in 1988 to complete his training at the University of North Dakota. He has held academic and clinical teaching positions at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Brown University. He is the author of five nonfiction books and a collection of poetry. “Maps of the Heart” is his first work of fiction.

Zelko will share his journey of writing the book and will have copies available for purchase.
